Minoil Capital was founded by a group of experienced professionals from the Commodity, Mining, Logistics and Financial industries.

Leveraging our previous experience, we are focused on trading activities across a wide range of agro-commodities and supply chain investments in targeted African destinations.

Our geographical focus is North Africa and the Horn of Africa – regions where we have cultivated an extensive network of relationships in-country, set-up local teams on the ground and historically accumulated both in-depth operating experience and a deep cultural understanding.

Minoil Capital's commodity team have significant experience in soft commodity trading and have successfully secured and executed large contracts under complex logistical environments.
We have been originating and handling several million tons of bulk agricultural commodities, mostly grains and edible oil in the North- East African region.

Soft Commodity Trading

Our soft trading business is built around our deep expertise in grains, pulses, edible oil and sugar.

Leveraging our partners hands on experience and longstanding relationships in the target markets, we are focusing on the dual objective of trading directly with the corporate clients and sovereigns.

Our team is capable of designing innovative trade finance solutions for our clients that aim to enhance their working capital utilization together with prompt delivery of products.

Our inhouse chartering team ensures flexibility on delivery schedule and product segmentation.
Gold Mining

Minoil is engaged in the exploration and development of mineral properties throughout East & West Africa.

Our team's expertise and extensive network of assets allow for closely monitoring and operational execution. Through responsible mining and following OECD supply chain guidelines, we ensure enhanced sustainability and monitoring over the supply chain.

Additionally, through the development of "Mine to Market" ESG program we enhance the robustness of the management systems, source traceability, risk mapping, mitigation programs and periodic reporting.

Ports and Terminals

Our port and terminal management unit includes an experienced team of port operators and facility service providers, developing and deploying intelligent systems for the optimization of transport facilities, and investing in young, educated, and local human resources in every new country of opportunity.

We are actively engaged in acquisitions and concession agreements for ports and terminals in the target countries of operation.

Ports and Terminals are of strategic importance, while enhancing supply chain efficiency is critical to sovereigns and corporate clients.

  • Kostas Armenakis
    Chairman & CEO
    Mr. Armenakis is the chairman and chief executive officer of Minoil Capital.

    Mr. Armenakis was previously an Executive Manager for North-East Africa for Gemcorp Group from 2017-2020. During that time, he built the local infrastructure with offices and local teams in Ethiopia, Sudan and Djibouti. In 2019 alone, Mr. Armenakis secured and executed contracts of over 1,500,000 mt in the agro-commodities sector.

    Prior to his role at Gemcorp, Mr. Armenakis held various positions in the commodities, mining and shipping sectors, while having a special interest in community based projects under his family office.

    Mr. Armenakis acquired his BSc in Finance and Marketing from Essex University in UK and his MSc from Cass Business School in Shipping, Trade and Finance.
  • Paul Swigart
    Non Executive Board Member
    Mr. Swigart is the CEO and a Founding Principal of Xtellus Capital Partners. Mr. Swigart is also the Founding Principal of Steep Rock Capital and Steep Rock Ventures, through which he has extensive experience investing in private equity and venture capital both in the US and internationally.

    Previously, Mr. Swigart was the CEO of VTB Capital USA. He also held several investment banking and portfolio management roles in Moscow, London, New York and Mexico City.

    Mr. Swigart serves on the Board of Directors of a number of private companies, including Eccentex, AdXcelerant, OnSpot Data, Prescient and Nimbuzz Kuraakani. Mr. Swigart graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University with certificates in Russia and Latin American Studies.
  • Leonid Kouperschmidt
    Non Executive Board Member
    Mr. Kouperschmidt is an Executive Director in the Equities group and a Founding Principal of Xtellus Capital Partners. Previously, Mr. Kouperschmidt held a senior role in equity sales for VTB Capital Inc. During his tenure, Mr. Kouperschmidt was instrumental in making VTB Capital one of leading Russian Brokerage firms in the US, assisting with the placement of more than US$ 10 billion of IPOs and SPOs.

    Prior to joining VTB Capital, Mr. Kouperschmidt held various equity sales roles in New York, London and Moscow with UBS Securities, RenCap Securities, Auerbach Grayson, Uralsib Bank and MDM Bank. Mr. Kouperschmidt is a graduate of Moscow State University for International Relations with a degree in International Finance.
  • George Patiniotis
    Executive Board Member and the Chief Operations Officer
    Mr. Patiniotis was previously the General Manager & Chief Operating Officer of Coskal Sarl in Djibouti handling an extensive sale & distribution network for liquor products in the Horn of Africa region. Prior to this role he was an independent contractor engaging in supply chain & logistic activities focused in Sudan, Ethiopia & Djibouti. Mr. Patiniotis has successfully executed large transactions, while working for both sovereign and private clients, under complicated operational environments. He has also held similar positions in the UK, Greece, Colombia and Hungary.

    Mr Patiniotis holds a BSc degree in Economics from the University of Reading (UK) and an Msc degree in Finance & Investment from the University of Bristol (UK).
